Idea Cellular to launch VoLTE services across its 4G circles this year to counter Reliance Jio

Idea cellular India's third Largest Teleco has announced the launch of VoLTE services in 4G circles this year. The announcement was made by managing director Himanshu Kapania said on Monday. It is learned that Idea cellular is in talks with Ericson and Nokia and likely to award the deal to one of them.

Idea's biggest rival Bharathi Airtel's chief executive Gopal Vittal has earlier announced that it will move to LTE in big cities within next 12-18 months. Idea cellular is currently offering 4G services across 11 existing telecom service areas and planning to launch 4G service in 9 New 4G telecom service areas and 3G services in Bihar and Rajasthan by March 2017.


Since one year, the company has more than doubled its mobile broadband network on the 3G/4G platform, and now covers over 50% of India’s population. Idea’s mobile broadband data services are currently available to nearly 500 million Indians across nearly 100,000 towns and villages.

In the spectrum auction in October 2016, Idea has further extended its spectrum portfolio that is sufficient for future requirements.

Idea Cellular launches unlimited 3G/4G data pack at Rs 19 per hour

The company is in plans to launch second mobile broadband carriers on 1800 MHz in 7 markets (where Idea is No.1 or No.2) and 2300 MHz carriers in its 3 leading markets, and will continue to expand its 3G 900 MHz services in Maharashtra & Goa, and Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, over the next  year.

Idea cellular also contains 2500 MHz 4G LTE carriers spanning 16 telecom service to expand capacity when the need arises. 2500 MHz is a popular capacity spectrum band in China for providing 4G LTE services.
