Apple iPhone 8 to feature built in Wireless Charging:Analyst

Apple is expected to launch   iphone8 in 2017 with full glass casing to support wireless charging and Pegatron will be the supplier of wireless charger. This was in accordance with the latest research note by securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo  of KGI securities, a financial group in South Asia region .Kuo gathers information from his contacts in Apple’s Asian supply chain and provides it to his clients. In a majority of the cases, predictions made by him on the upcoming Apple products are accurate enough and that makes him one of the most reliable sources for Apple rumours.

Metal case body vs Glass

Most of the companies prefer to have mobile phones with metal case body but in reality, it actually limits the speed limit of wireless charging. Hence glass surfaces are preferred to ensure smooth and fast wireless charging. John Ivy chief design officer of apple Inc  has long been trying to inculcate glass casing in iPhone’s. Presently Apple watches come with wireless charging,  and if rumors are to be believed the charger  might not come bundled with the new  iPhone and may be charged separately.

Apple’s competitor Samsung has released devices long back with wireless charging capability but Kuo believes frequency interference will be minimum on glass surfaces .Kuo previously speculated Apple will be launching 5.8 inch iPhone with a curved casing next year. Current devices with wireless charging technology need them to be placed in the close vicinity of the charger. Apple has been exploring for long to allow users charge wirelessly their devices by placing anywhere in the room.

Apple's efforts so far...

Apple also has a Patent for wireless charging stations and near field magnetic resonance which charges device within the certain region. Apple has earlier showed interest in ‘hidden charging’ technology used by WiTricity corporation, which allows magnetic fields to wrap around barriers .This facilitates users to place devices anywhere they need .

In recent past, Apple has hired two engineers experienced in wireless charging from   ubeam, a startup focused on wireless charging technology .If Apple introduces this technology in its new iPhones it will be a further boost to Apple’s share of profits .Apple has garnered 91% share of profits from all its smartphones in the third quarter of 2016 in a report released by Strategy Analytics firm. It clearly dominated its rivals by a fair margin.

Interestingly Samsung has not featured in the  list of Top 5, attributed due to the flak faced, which led to the recall of flagship smart phone Galaxy note 7.
