He achieved the  feat in the ongoing 3rd test versus England He is only the second Indian ,after the Great Kapil dev to achieve the feat. Kapil dev did it twice in 1979 and 1983. There are only 10 such instances overall in the history of test matches .

Also under Kohli's captaincy, his batting position seems established at No.6.  He has over the years, developed a habit of scoring crucial runs in crunch situations. So far he registered  5 number of 50+ scores in 12 innings so far in 2016 only the second most for India behind Cheteshwar pujara. He succeeds almost every time he comes into bat and lifts the sinking ship, and  that speaks loads about his talent.

To back it off, he is more than handy as a bowler. He is the first go to bowler  for any captain and breaks crucial partnerships when the team needed him to do so. Earlier he has become second fastest bowler ever to claim 200 test wickets in only 37 tests behind Australian leg spinner Clarrie Grimmett. More often than not, we see surge in the runrate whenever Ashwin comes to crease for batting, be it test ,One day or  T20.His statistics  justify it across all formats. He has a healthy strike rate of 55.61 in tests,86.58 in ODI's and 103.7 in T20 cricket.

In the ongoing series, he is very consistent with the bat and ball.Even on Sunday, he stepped in when India are reeling at 204/6 still trailing by 79 runs and in the danger handing England a comfortable first innings lead. He along with Jadeja was involved in a 67 run crucial partnership that landed India on the safer side. Although eventually, he perished for 72 runs they are very valuable, if you look at the the course of the match.

He bagged seven ‘Man of the Series’ till date in just 37 tests and became only the third player to do so after Imran Khan and Malcolm Marshall. Currently, he is the most Valuable player (MVP) for India.
