Here's Why World's Richest Temple is Seeking Support of TCS



Sri lord Venkateswara Swamy temple is located in the  hill town of Tirumala at Tirupati in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Every day, the temple is being flocked with thousands  of pilgrims who eagerly wait in long queues to have a glimpse at  the holy  shrine and to who seek divine blessings of Lord Venkateshwara.

On special occasions, the numbers swell and  will be even higher.The ratio of donations offered to the temples is also huge on par with the number of pilgrims. It is touted as richest temple in the world.It is run by Tirumala Tirupati devasthanams (TTD) trust.

Post demonetization,  following the scrapping  Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes the temple has witnessed huge inflows of cash,hundi collections grew to over 4.2 crores a day from the normal 2.5 crores per day.

It is estimated that temple receives approximately Rs 3 crores in daily donations and 1100 crore in annual donations.The donations received mostly in the form of cash jewelry, gold, silver and demat share transfers.Annually about 10million devotees including men,Women and children get their head tonsured after the  fulfillment of the vow. According to estimates auctioning of human hair alone fetches Tirumala Tirupati devasthanams (TTD) more than 220 crores.

Keeping in view, the TTD Board in a major step towards digitization,  is seeking technical support from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for adoption of e-transactions to provide enhanced services for visiting pilgrims. “Inorder to hold accountability and ease day to day -to- day transactions the TTD Board has made arrangements for e-donations, e-hundi, e-publications, e-challan, e-darshan, e- accommodation, and e-Seva, ”said an official

TCS has long been in collaboration with  TTD Board and offering technical support in  areas of darshan, accommodation,laddoo Prasad distribution and books.According to TCS spokesperson, as part of corporate social responsibility activities, TCS has been actively engaged with TTD towards providing better pilgrim experience and providing technical improvements where ever needed be it booking of  various sevas, darshan and donor related management systems.

‘While these are a couple of routine administrations, the TTD administration is currently attempting to build up an integrated next generation application with modern advancements and data analytics  for donor management  alongside better System operating procedures’ noted a TTD Board member.
