Apple Set to make iPhones in Bengaluru, India from April

Apple will be starting the production from April of this year. Apple has this process going since many months. Many discussions happened with Central government officials and finally received government's nod to set up the unit in India.

Apple has selected Taiwan's contract phone maker Wistron Corp., as the manufacturing partner in India. In this process, Wistron Corp., has selected the facility in Peenya Industrial Area of Bengaluru to be suitable.

The company will be making iPhones for India during its first phase of operations. Hence we can expect a bit cheaper phones relatively once it starts manufacturing in India owing to lesser production costs and no import duties.

Apple India reported a net profit of Rs294 crore in the year ended on 31 March 2016 on revenue of Rs9,997 crore. Apple India crossed $1 Billion mark in 2015.

Apple India is also in discussions to open retail stores in India. Apple India has a development center in Hyderabad which works on Apple Maps. Seems that Apple is betting big in India.
